Australia To Host WRC Qualifier
The website for the Australian Riichi Mahjong Open went live today, and there are a few “firsts” buried in the announcement. This will not only be the first national open tournament in Australia—it will also be the first WRC qualifier on the continent.
The tournament will be held December 7th & 8th in Melbourne and is hosted by Melbourne Mahjong Meetup Group and the Australian Riichi Mahjong Association at historic Kensington Town Hall.
Gemma Sakamoto of the WRC added,”This is the first qualifier ever to be held in Oceania, and I hope it will be the start of explosive growth for riichi in Australia!”
Registration is $50 AUD (approximately $35 USD, or €31 euro.) The tournament will be using the standing WRC rules in a 6-qualifier, 2-final format and 80 minute hanchans.
As an added bonus, the ARMO website also links a WRC Standards of Conduct, a document previously unreleased to the public.
